Scrambling: the Smugglers' Trail at Lake Garda

It would be a rather easy via ferrata, mostly slightly downhill, always on natural ledges (terrazzini), were it not that... the ferrata cable is not there! Adrenaline and a sheer view of Lake Garda, this mountaineering trail carved into the cliffs will give you a breathtaking experience.

It is entered from the spectacular Ponale road, leaving the centre of Riva behind and proceeding in a southerly direction. Some exposed passages and tightrope traverses alternate with less demanding stretches, where attention and a steady foot is always required.

From a few hundred metres above sea level, you can admire sailboats and boats sailing on the calm waters of Lake Garda: wonderful views that will arouse strong and unforgettable emotions in you.

This is a mountaineering route suitable for those with a steady heart and who know how to keep their fear of heights under control. One proceeds with a short rope, a safe mountaineering-style progression technique, always accompanied by a mountain guide.

The most interesting section is a gentle descent and there are few stretches of real physical effort, concentrated on a ledge a few tens of centimetres wide. Finally, a steep but safe path takes you back to the starting point.

Including: harness, helmet and climbing equipment.

What to bring: technical sports clothing, rucksack with at least one litre of water, snacks, hiking shoes or trainers with treaded soles (no flat shoes, no sandals, slippers or flip-flops). Sweatshirt and/or windbreaker depending on the climate. Sunglasses and hat optional.

Medium. Height difference with mainly horizontal progression for about 40 minutes of walking. Suitable for those who want to participate in an excursion that is not too physically intense, but of great psychological commitment, in an adrenalin-filled and evocative environment.
